His Own Bible to Read and Write In

Yesterday morning, Squiggly-Wiggly cuddled up next to me as I read tried to read my Bible. He noticed some small notepapers I had written meaningful verses on and began reading them. Then he went and got a pen. I told him he'd need some paper, thinking he wanted to write a verse or something like I had in my Bible. No, he was trying to take my Bible because He wanted to write in it. I gently told him that he may not write in my Bible, but that maybe it is time we get him his own Bible to read and write in.

We have various Children's Bibles which are compilations of stories. I don't think he's at a reading level for an entire Bible, but later in the day I remembered a workbook that I got awhile ago for 99 cents at Ollies. I planned on using it to keep Squiggly-Wiggly practicing writing. Reading comes so naturally to him, but he has struggled with writing. I've already seen his writing skills go downhill in the 4 weeks since school ended.

So here it is... Squiggly-Wiggly's Bible to write in! He was very excited to have it, and I told him we'd try to do a page each day. There are 52 pages, so with all the skipped days here and there, it should take us right up to the first day of school. Here's his first completed page. The bottom said to draw a picture of something God made, so he drew sky and clouds.

I should go and find a Bible Story coloring book for Fuzzy-Wuzzy. Only 2 years old, he insists on being in on the action. He also has always loved to color and draw, so today he colored in a Sesame Street coloring book. It's amazing to me how much he is already trying to color in the lines. He did this whole page by himself.

And being the little artist that he is, he had to try out a more interesting medium for his artwork: his face. He quite deliberately decorated himself, as you can see. I caught him just as he was trying to color his eyeballs. Can you see the "eyeshadow" on his eyelids? It was all I could do not to shout NO! laugh as I reminded him that we color on paper and not on our faces!

Great idea. Does he read with you when you read all the time? I need to include them more often in my bible time. I have been so lack and unmotivated. I am just being honest. This has encourage me! Thanks!

@ real me:
Most times he does not read with me, but often he is awake and nearby, unless I'm reading at night after he goes to bed.

I'm not at all disciplined about things, so I sneak a read when I can. That particular morning I was laying on my bed reading, before any of us had gotten dressed or gone downstairs. The boys like to cuddle with me in my bed in the mornings, so he just saw me on the bed and decided to snuggle up to me.

Notice the "tried to read" in my post! I don't often get very far unless I read during their rest time... but I find it helpful to even ponder just a couple of verses in the morning to start off my day.
